Bathysphere

Smog (Bill Callahan) - [Bathysphere] (Live Austin 2003)

When I was seven
I asked my mother
To trip me to the bay
And put me on a ship
And lower me down
Lower me out of here

Because when I was seven
I wanted to live in a bathysphere

Between coral
Silent eel
Silver swordfish
I can't really feel or dream down here

And if the water should cut my line
Set me free
And if the water should cut my line
Set me free, I don't mind
I'll be the lost sailor, my home is the sea

When I was seven
My father said to me
'but you can't swim'
And I've never dreamed of the sea again

I went to London and die.

Morrissey - [Half A Person] (Live NY 2000)

And if you have five seconds to spare
Then I'll tell you the story of my life:
Sixteen, clumsy and shy
I went to London and I/ die
I booked myself in at the Y....W.C.A
(whole story)

+ 1990 "The Face" interview with Morrissey:
Nick Kent: In my favourite of your confessional songs - "Half A Person" - you sing about being hopelessly smitten with a girl who, after you return to impress her as a famous personage, simply tells you, "When you were hopelessly poor I just liked you more"... Is that autobiographical?

Morrissey: "Yes, that is all absolutely true. She does exist."

Yourself And The Air

So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk, thinking that if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was hurricane.

Hello, stranger.

by Yee Ting

I was on bus 55,
sitting next to me was this guy playing sudoku.

I overheard him on the phone.
He was about to meet someone for dinner at Brewer Street, Soho.

Then I saw him on the same bus when I headed home.

He was on the phone saying, he met up with somebody for some updates, and had a good time.
It almost feels like he is telling me that.

until the master passion, gain, engrosses you

"'You fear the world too much,' she answered gently. 'All your other hopes have merged into the hope of being beyond the chance of its sordid reproach. I have seen your nobler aspirations fall off, one by one, until the master passion, gain, engrosses you. Have I not?'"
